the COMPOSERS
Thomas Larcher is an Austrian composer and pianist widely recognized as one of the leading voices in contemporary classical music. After studying piano and composition in Vienna, he first established an international career as a pianist specializing in modern repertoire before focusing increasingly on composition. His works range from chamber music to large orchestral pieces, including concertos, symphonies and the opera The Hunting Gun. Larcher’s music combines elements of the European classical tradition with innovative timbral exploration and expressive lyricism. His works are performed by major orchestras and ensembles worldwide, and he has received numerous awards including the Grand Austrian State Prize.

His works have been commissioned by ensembles such as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the National Youth Choir and Manchester Collective, and have been featured at major events including the BBC Proms.
